Herménégilde Chiasson

Herménégilde Chiasson was born in Saint-Simon, New-Brunswick, in 1946. He is known primarily as a writer in Quebec where his poetry has won him prestigious prizes, but he remains a visual artist whose creativity extends to numerous disciplines including temporary in situ installation, cinema and theatre. He is also a highly regarded art theoretician.

The organisers of his retrospective at the Dalhousie Art Gallery and the Confederation Centre Museum amunsingly call him "Monsieur Acadie".

The catalogue for this exhibition states that "Chiasson lives, works and takes a philosophical and literary stance situated somewhere between Apollinaire and Le Refus global, between Michael Snow's early work and Jimmy Durham's late work, between the uncertainly of Marcel Proust's construction and that of Jacques Derrida's deconstruction."

Chiasson has never exhibited his work in Montreal and we beleive his presence along the Lachine Canal will be one of the revelations of this project.
