Centre d'art public

The Centre d’art public (CAP) organises ARTEFACT MONTREAL – URBAN SCULPTURES, a triennial event presenting ephemeral public sculptures and installations. ARTEFACT gives preference to artists who go out and meet the public, temporarily installing themselves in natural enviroment or in functional spaces in order to create their work and integrate it into the environment where it is presented. This event hightlights contemporary artworks that attempt to bring art and life closer together, works that communicate with and engage the public. ARTEFACT is also a "nomadic" event : every three years, an exhibition is set up at a different site on the Island of Montréal.

An off shoot of Centre de diffusion 3D, Centre d’art public (CAP) is a non-profit corporation with the following objectives:

  1. To acquaint and educate the public about contemporary sculpture;
  2. To organize outdoor sculpture exhibitions on a national and international scale;
  3. To plan various events relating to these public art exhibitions, and to encourage reflection and exchange of views through round table discussions, publications and so on.
